The Reading Ready for Whole Phonics Teacher Guide, Level One represents a union of the lessons from Dr. Katie Pace Miles original Reading Ready program combined with Whole Phonics materials. The alignment of Reading Ready and Whole Phonics is based on a shared understanding that a well-structured and thoughtfully designed scope and sequence of phonetic elements is critical for emergent readers to develop strong word reading habits. Both programs also recognize the need for foundational skills practice (e.g., phonemic awareness, letter-sound knowledge, word analysis, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension) in order for students to become proficient readers. In this manner, teachers will have a complete program that encompasses instruction and associated materials. Level One covers the short vowels.
